Cathedrals and churches:

Canterbury Cathedral, is about 20 minutes away. The centre of the Anglican communion and imposing bastion of fifteen hundred years of Britain's Christian legacy. Awe inspiring !

Gardens:

Sissinghurst, about 35 minutes away, is the most beautiful garden in the South-East of England and must be visited.

Castles:

Dover Castle, which needs no introduction, is about 15 minutes away. The recently opened tunnels are an added attraction.

Leeds Castle, about 30 minutes away and "the loveliest castle in the world".

Walmer Castle, again 30 minutes away, was designed by Henry VIII to be one of the ultimate castles; and was indeed one of the last to be built - virtually impregnable.

Other attractions:

Port Lympne Zoo, which is about 15 minutes away, is well worth a visit.

Battle of Britain Museum, Hawkinge, about 5 minutes, deals exclusively with the Second World War in the air. It is situated on what was Hawkinge aerodrome, the closest to France and a vital, front-line airfield, mostly fielding Hurricanes.

Etchinghill Golf Club, 10 minutes away.

Broome Park Golf Club, 15 minutes away.

Sene Valley Golf Club, 10 minutes away.

Lydd Airport, 30 minutes away and a great way to spend an interesting hour or two. 

Rye - one of the Cinque Ports, though no longer next the sea, is stunningly beautiful and its church is one of the best in England. About 40 minutes.
